Teams are invited to submit innovative plans for an interstellar, multi-generation spaceship.
Project Hyperion explores the feasibility of crewed interstellar travel via generation ships, using current and near-future technologies. A generation ship is a hypothetical spacecraft designed for long-duration interstellar travel, where the journey may take centuries to complete. The idea behind a generation ship is that the initial crew would live, reproduce, and die on the ship, with their descendants continuing the journey until reaching the destination. These ships are often envisioned as self-sustaining ecosystems, featuring agriculture, habitation, and other necessary life-support systems to ensure survival across multiple generations.

Instead of focusing on the propulsion system or the ship’s structural design, researchers are specifically interested in determining the ideal space habitat architecture and social system for a 250 Earth year mission.
The generation ship will generate Earth-equivalent gravity through rotation, provide Earth-like atmospheric conditions, and protect inhabitants from radiation and impacts. The ship must accommodate 1,000 people, plus or minus 500, for the entire journey.

For this competion the winning team will design the habitat of the generation ship, including its architecture and society. Teams have to be multi-disciplinary. Each team must have: At least one architectural designer, at least one engineer and at least one social scientist (sociologist, anthropologist, etc.)

The winning, First Place team will recieve $5,000; Second Place $3,000; Third Place $2,000.
The competition will run from November 1, 2024 to June 2, 2025 and is open to all.
