DebunkBot

October 2, 2024 Posted by Director Progress & Principles, Robotics & AI

https://www.debunkbot.com/conspiracies

The above link is not a parlor game. As reported in the New York Times, DebunkBot is an A.I. chatbot designed by researchers to “very effectively persuade users to stop believing unfounded conspiracy theories.” When a user first lands on the above webpage they are asked a series of questions. The answers help DebunkBot profile user bias in order to craft responses. The creators of the chatbot are exploring how they might recreate the DebunkBot experience in the real world, where people often seek out information that confirms their belief rather than facts that challenge it.

Potential applications and distribution for DebunkBot include schools and doctors’ offices.
