Cell Phones Fail During Hurricane Helene

September 30, 2024 Posted by Director Environment & Engineering, Progress & Principles

Marketing promotes wireless communications for first responders even though cell phones are unreliable and fail during emergencies. |

As of today approximately 105 people have been reported dead in six states due to hurricane Helene. North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia are reporting that a contributing factor to this tragedy is the failure of cell phone service.

Wireless communications can and will fail during emergency situations when needed most. Landlines and hard-wired connections provide security and reliability during uncertain times.

Condolences to those affected by this catastrophic storm.
