1st-ever cat cap that measures brain activity without sedation

October 1, 2024 Posted by Director Brains & Biometrics, Progress & Principles

In a first, veterinary scientists have successfully scanned the brains of cats in a conscious state.

To achieve this, the Université de Montréal team made custom-knitted wool caps filled with electrodes to record brain activity in cats with chronic pain.  Reportedly, the researchers turned to a YouTube tutorial on crocheting a cat hat.

They took the assistance of graduate students to create custom-made wool caps. These caps concealed the electrodes, making them invisible to the cats so that they would not remove the hats.  One cat seemed to fall into a deep sleep during the test.
